Vacations are those lovely times of year when you can cast off the shackles of life & relax without feeling beat down by everything you have to do to get from one weekday to the next. Moreover, if you stay in a terrible room during your vacation, you can come to dread “coming home” during your time-off, and that can be just about the saddest way to spend your vacation. In this day & age, nearly every hotel has a website. Not only should you be able to find information on rates, you should be able to get a sense of the organization & layout of their rooms. Some provide pictures while others provide blueprints. You should also be able to see what kind of amenities are offered. Remember, you’re trying to create a “home away from home”, and in doing so, you need to feel as though you can actually be comfortable.
In the same vein, being able to see what your accommodations can offer can help you figure out if they can provide the type of environment that can be refreshing & allow for decompression after a long day of vacation activities. This can be a very personal matter in that only you know how you & your loved ones can actually feel at ease after a long day. Maybe you’re all best suited with some time away from each other, or maybe you just need access to wi-fi. Having a game plan for how you want to end the day can be crucial in deciding whether certain accommodations can work for you.
Finally, it’s important to remember that vacations are all about fun & excitement. Sometimes, this fun & excitement can come from absolutely killing it when checking off all items on your day’s itinerary. For others, it can mean being able to give each other “the look” and deciding to fly by the seat of your pants for some unplanned fun. Vacations are about being in the moment & trying new things. Your accommodations should allow for some alternative excitement in case you wake up & decide that it’s a “stay back & chill” kind of day. We really don’t want to think about the things that could make our vacations go wrong, but unless you take the time to think about everything, especially your accommodations, you could very well spend your vacation wanting nothing more than to go back home. You deserve better.
